Does C4 Break A Fast?

C4 is a popular pre-workout supplement manufactured by the brand Cellucor that is loved by millions around the world. Naturally, owing to its ability to elevate your energy levels, focus, and drive, people who are fasting and dealing with low energy often consider the supplement to support their weight loss goals. However, specific versions of C4 that are available on the market will break your fast.

C4 might be useful under specific fasting circumstances, such as on a fast to promote autophagy but, it actually depends on which specific product you consume. Read on below to explore all we know about Cellucor’s C4 pre-workout.

Are There Calories In C4?

There are several versions of C4 available on the market. These include the RTD (ready to drink) product, Ripped, Ultimate Shred, and Original C4 version. Reading the labels, all of them except the Original version indicate that they are absent of calories.

C4 Original pre workout nutritional facts

The Original version has 5 calories per serving, even, and approximately 1g of carbohydrate. While not a large number, those seeking to follow a ketogenic fast or abstaining from all calories need to keep this in mind.

The other variations of C4, however, have no calories. This is due to the use of sucralose as a sweetener. Sucralose is a calorie-free alternative to sugar that is often used in diet sodas and other calorie-restricted foods and beverages.

Will C4 Raise Blood Glucose Or Insulin Levels?

The carbohydrate content of Original C4 is very minimal, and as such, it is unlikely that it will have any significant impact on blood glucose or insulin levels. The other versions of C4 do not have any carbs whatsoever, and do not cause any impact on blood sugar and insulin, thus can be used safely by those fasting without fear of any negative impact – in moderation.

It is worth mentioning, however, that sugar substitutes carry the risk of worsening insulin resistance, even in the absence of immediate blood sugar changes. Diabetics need to tread carefully based on this fact.

Will C4 Affect Autophagy?

Autophagy is an essential life process whereby the body cleans up and recycles damaged cells and cellular debris. This is an important process for maintaining good health, and many people seek to increase autophagy through fasting or calorie restriction.

C4 will not have any detrimental impact on autophagy, but it may increase it due to the presence of caffeine. Caffeine has been shown to stimulate autophagy in a dose-dependent manner, meaning that the more you consume, the greater the effect (up to a maximum of 6 cups daily)

Can I Use C4 on Fasting Days?

You can safely consume C4 products on fasting days, and in most cases, during the fast itself as it will not impact your fast in a negative way.

It may even help you get through the fasting period more easily by providing you with the energy and focus you need to make it to your next meal. Just be sure not to overdo it, as too much caffeine can lead to jitteriness, anxiety, insomnia, and other side effects.

Final Words

C4 makes a good line of products that has considered the needs of a wide spectrum of athletes and even everyday folks just trying to improve their health via fasting. The only exception to this rule is the Original version which contains a small number of calories as listed on the label, but you should still be able to use it in moderation.
